What is CHiropractic?

Chiropractic is a health care profession that began over 120 years ago and primarily focuses on treating and healing the body through natural means by addressing the nervous system. The nervous system is made up of the central nervous system and peripheral nervous system. The NERVOUS SYSTEM is known as the master system in the body and controls all other systems in the body. The components of the nervous systems are made up by the brain, spinal cord, and peripheral nerves. Nerves communicate to and from the body by sending signals to every cell, muscle, organ, and gland. Optimum health for you and your family is achieved by checking and removing all miscommunication or NERVE INTERFERENCE in the body. Nerve interference is created by restrictions in joints called subluxations. Chiropractors remove these SUBLUXATIONS restoring motion in the joints to allow better communication to the nervous system to heal the body.

Subluxation

Subluxations are known as motion restrictions or a partial dislocation in joints located in the spine or extremities. Joints are meant to move through a wide range of different motions. When a vertebral joint has its motion restricted it produces irritation to the nerve causing miscommunication in the body. When the vertebrae isn’t moving properly it causes increased mechanical pressure on the discs and ligaments associated with it. This subluxation causes the body to lose its ability to move correctly limiting the nervous system to function optimally. Once located, chiropractors use safe, gentle force to restore proper motion and remove subluxations in the spine and extremities. Subluxations are caused by 3 different mechanisms. These mechanisms are Physical, Chemical, and Mental factors. Subluxations can produce many different signs and symptoms throughout the body including the following.

  • Tenderness

  • Reduction or loss of mobility

  • Muscle spasms

  • Tingling sensations

  • Loss of sensation

  • Weakness, dizziness

How Optimum CHIROPRACTIC is different

Many chiropractic offices focus mainly on the presence or sensation of pain as a moderator of health. At Optimum we understand that although pain perception and exposure is important to health, it is not the primary indicator of overall health or well being. There are many structures in the body that we can’t feel to regulate whether or not they are healthy, for example, what is healthier right now: your right lung or your left kidney? These are structures that we aren’t consciously aware of. Instead, in the health community, we rely on functional testing to determine their health such as blood analysis, urine analysis, stress tests, etc. In the office we rely on functional testing of nerves to address any interference in the body by postural analysis, range of motion testing, orthopedic testing, EMG muscle study, thermography study, and X-ray analysis. From this data we develop specific care plans to better treat our practice members. Each care plan will typically start with adjustments 2 times per week for 6-8 weeks with a focus on removing the acute symptoms. Similar to a exercise program, a diet, or post surgical rehab, we will see an adaptation and change in pain or symptoms early on. However, long term healing and correction of chronic issues takes longer. Once healing has started at a cellular level and the pain or symptoms decrease, we decrease the treatments in frequency to maintain long term stability of the body leading to healing and optimum health. Functional testing will continue to be monitored throughout the care plan to track overall progress.
